The best Boston restaurant near you depends on which neighborhood you are staying in, because each one has its own strengths: Italian food and oysters in the North End, steakhouses and a rooftop room in Back Bay, tapas and bistros in the South End, seafood on the Seaport waterfront, and historic dining rooms downtown. Below are reliable picks in each, with the one practical detail that decides most visits, such as whether it takes reservations or cash.
Hours and booking rules come from each restaurant's own website and were checked for our listings; confirm before you go, especially on holidays.
