The W Boston Hotel and Residences is one tower at 100 Stuart Street in the Theatre District with two different things inside: the W Boston hotel, which anyone can book through Marriott, and the Residences at W Boston, about 123 private condominiums on the upper floors that are bought or leased, not booked by the night. If you are visiting, the hotel is what you are looking for.
The building opened in October 2009 with the hotel on floors 3 to 13 and the condominiums on floors 14 to 26. The hotel suits theater nights, a downtown base between Back Bay and Chinatown, and a cocktail at W Lounge; it is not a spa resort, and it is not next door to the Museum of Fine Arts.
Hotel or residences: what can you book?
Only the hotel. The W Boston is a W Hotels property, a Marriott brand, and rooms and suites are booked through Marriott and its Bonvoy program. The Residences at W Boston are owned condominiums with their own association; real estate listings give their address as 110 Stuart Street and describe residents using hotel services. Searching for the residences as a vacation rental leads to sales and long-term lease listings, not nightly stays. The hotel can also be booked through W Boston on Expedia.
Where is the W Boston?
At 100 Stuart Street, Boston 02116, in the Theatre District. Marriott names Boylston (Green Line) and Tufts Medical Center (Orange Line) as the nearest subway stations, and South Station for trains and intercity buses. Boston Common and the Public Garden are the nearby green space. The Museum of Fine Arts and Symphony Hall are a different neighborhood, in the Fenway and Symphony area, so plan a T ride rather than a stroll. Logan Airport is about 4 miles away, and the hotel runs no airport shuttle.
Rooms and suites
The hotel leans on a Boston rebel theme, citing Aerosmith, Edgar Allan Poe and the Salem witches, with hardwood floors, custom murals and slate-finished bathrooms. The suites are the distinctive rooms: an Urban Suite on the 15th floor dedicated to Poe, and Penthouse suites on the highest floors with skyline views.
Where to eat and drink: The Gallery and W Lounge
The Gallery is the hotel restaurant, serving a light, locally sourced breakfast, and it doubles as a private event space. W Lounge is the cocktail bar, with a fireplace, signature drinks and small plates; rotating DJs play Thursday to Saturday nights, and a live acoustic set runs on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. For a pre-theater dinner with more choice, the restaurants of the Theatre District and Chinatown are close by.
Is there a spa at the W Boston?
Not on the hotel's current Marriott page, which lists a fitness center, a hair salon and Aescape, a robotic recovery massage system with sessions of 15 to 60 minutes. The gym's treadmills, ellipticals and bikes each have a screen and Peloton. A Bliss spa opened with the building in 2009, but it is not part of what the hotel describes today, so do not book the W for a spa day.
Practical details
Parking is valet only, at 76 dollars per day, with EV charging subject to availability. Check-in is at 4 p.m. and check-out at noon. The hotel is pet friendly for one pet per room up to 40 pounds. In-room Wi-Fi is complimentary for Marriott Bonvoy members who book direct.
