The essential sports stops in Boston are a tour of Fenway Park, which runs every day of the year and costs $30 for adults; the guided Sports Museum tour inside TD Garden, home of the Celtics and Bruins; the Bobby Orr statue outside the Garden on Legends Way; and the Boston Marathon finish on Boylston Street near Copley Square. Time the trip right and you can add a game, the Head of the Charles Regatta in October or Marathon Monday, which falls on April 19 in 2027.
Fenway is in the Fenway neighborhood on the Green Line; TD Garden sits above North Station on the Orange and Green lines; the marathon finish is in Back Bay. All three are reachable by T in a single day.
Fenway Park: tours, games and the Green Monster
Fenway Park has been the home of the Red Sox since April 20, 1912. The public tour lasts 60 minutes, covers the team and ballpark history, and stops on top of the Green Monster, the 37-foot-2-inch left-field wall, when it is open. Tours leave at the top of each hour from the Team Store on Jersey Street, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. between April and October and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. between November and March; on game days the last tour goes three hours before first pitch. Adults pay $30 and children 3 to 12 pay $21, and tickets go on sale online up to 180 days ahead.
Short on time? Fenway in Fifteen is a 15-minute, $20 tour from Gate B on game days and weekends from May to September. On game days ticket holders can book the $55 Pregame Tour, which gets you onto the warning track three hours early. Without a ticket at all, Bleacher Bar on Lansdowne Street, the only bar inside the ballpark, looks straight onto the outfield through a garage-door window and never charges a cover. For the rest of the neighborhood, see things to do in the Fenway.
TD Garden and the Sports Museum
The Celtics and the Bruins both play their home games at TD Garden, 100 Legends Way. Its Sports Museum covers Boston and New England teams, including the Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox and Patriots, on levels 5 and 6 of the arena, and it is visited only by guided tour. Tours leave hourly; this fall the first goes at 10 a.m. and the last at 2 or 3 p.m., and the museum closes on some TD Garden event days and holidays. Start at the Sports Museum desk inside North Station.
Two rules catch visitors out: bags must be no larger than 4 by 6 by 1.5 inches and are X-rayed, and no outside food or drink is allowed. Outside on Legends Way, the bronze statue of Bobby Orr shows him flying through the air after the goal that won the Bruins the 1970 Stanley Cup. For food and drink nearby, see things to do near North Station.
The Boston Marathon finish line
The marathon finishes on Boylston Street in Back Bay, near Copley Square; the B.A.A.'s accessible viewing spots run along Boylston from Hereford Street to Exeter Street. The 131st race is on Monday, April 19, 2027, Patriots' Day, with about 30,000 runners. On any other day you can walk the finish stretch from Copley station on the Green Line. Marathon Sports at 671 Boylston Street, steps from the line by the store's description, sells the official race-year jacket and gear and hosts a free group run every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. around the Charles River.
If you are visiting on race weekend, expect road closures, full hotels and closed museums: the Museum of Fine Arts and the Gardner both close on Patriots' Day.
The Head of the Charles Regatta
The Head of the Charles, a three-day rowing regatta on the Charles River, runs October 16 to 18 in 2026. The river divides Boston from Cambridge, so part of the course and many of the spectator spots are on the Cambridge side.
Teams that play outside the city
The Patriots and the New England Revolution play at Gillette Stadium, One Patriot Place in Foxborough, about 29 miles southwest of downtown; the stadium points fans to Commuter Rail service to Foxboro station. Boston Legacy FC, the city's National Women's Soccer League team, played its 2026 home matches at Gillette, will play 2027 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and plans to move to White Stadium in Boston's Franklin Park in 2028.
